The pictures and info in below should show where the different coloured wires connect to the CDI unit.
The info and pictures are from a 2004 ZRX1200R (A4H model).
Other years may be different!

Kawasaki ZRX1200R CDI / Ignitor unit (part no: 21119-0029)
There’s 2 connector blocks that attach to the CDI, the smaller block is 4 pins wide and 2 rows deep and the lager block is 8 pins wide and 2 rows deep.

Where the 2 connectors attach on the 2004 ZRX1200 and the connector blocks
Note: The wiring colours listed below are taken from a 2004 ZRX1200 we dismantled for spares.
The information relating to where the wires go is taken from the wiring diagrams in the official Kawasaki service manual, BUT, we can’t be 100% sure this info is accurate as, helpfully, the service manual doesn’t quite match the wiring on the bike!
- Small connector block wire colours:
- Black (to coil)
- Green (to coil)
- Yellow/black (to side stand switch)
- Brown/white (to fusebox and engine kill switch)
- 4 x Blanked off holes

- Yellow (to throttle position sensor and crank sensor)
- Black/red (to starter button)
- Yellow/white (to throttle position sensor)
- Blue/black (to throttle position sensor)
- Blue/red
- Blue (to throttle position sensor)
- Black (to coil)
- Orange/black
- Grey (to coil)
- Green/black (to fusebox)
- White/black
- 4 x Blanked off holes

Note: The ZRX1200 has a coded ignition system which, if not working correctly can seem like a CDI problem.
The indicator for the coded ignition is the red oil light on the clocks, if the oil light is flashing when the ignitions turned on there’s a problem with the coded ignition system.If the system is working correctly, the oil light should come on (not flashing) and go off when the starter button is pressed.
